Demon Wip

So with all the bleedin studying ive been doing ive had no time to try out anything ive learnt. so i started this ugly bugger tonight. i was going to scrap it at one point but i started working in to it and once i began to get an idea of what i was going to do with the lighting i got in to it. im working from a small sketch i did at work. any crits and ideas about where to take it would be great.

Gesture and anatomy study

was struggling to get started tonight, but once i got going i didn't want to stop, i love it when you get through the "i cant be arsed" feeling and end up getting really inspired and into your work. started with some two minute gesture drawings and then a more involved study. ref was from mjranum-stock

Fun at work

Trying out some of the things ive learnt from looking at the Glen Keanes tangled character sheets. looking at expressions and character. i keep a small stack of A3 sheets sticking out from under my keyboard so i can scribble and sketch when animation fatigue sets in and at lunch times.

Hair Wip

ive never really attempted hair so its one of my weakest areas to draw/paint. so i thought i would do a study. this is a work in progress. i think i'll carry on with the face too, i generally find woman difficult so why not.

Flynn Rider

i love tangled and Flynn rider is such an awesome character. i found some really nice character sheets on line by the insanely tallented Glen Keane. the amount of expression and character makes me feel like i know nothing so im going to start a Disney study area and really try and understand how to get character into my work. here's a few pages of studies from those sheets

So lets get the ball rolling

ive been visiting the local museum on the weekends to do studies of casts and sculptures. its really got me back in to using a pencil and i feel it improving my observational skills dramatically. drawing from casts was one of the primary methods of the atelier (workshops) of old. a student would use casts to try and copy exactly what was in front of him. each week i will be posting more of theses studies. these are a few recent studies and the ink one is a study i did about a year ago of the same bust at a different museum.
